What We Do
Nancy’s Toy Drop is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, providing children in area hospitals and in the community with toys, books, diapers, and gifts for the holidays. We collaborate with the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad – Santa’s Ride Toy Drive and local nonprofits.
How It Works
Nancy’s Toy Drop collaborates with the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad, Inova Children’s Hospital, and local nonprofits to identify children in need, their age ranges, and the types of desired gifts (games, books, toys, electronics, diapers and infant necessities, etc.). We then work with the community at-large to collect these donated gifts, and the funds to purchase them.
In early December, we hand off all of the donated gifts to the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad and local nonprofits – in dramatic fashion! And we then join the Motor Squad at Inova Children’s Hospital to sort all the toys collected from across Fairfax County, and hand deliver them to children in the Hospital.
How It Started
The day after Thanksgiving 2018, Nancy’s Toy Drop founder, Dave Pollard, and his mother filled a shopping cart full of toys for the “Stuff the Police Cruiser” toy drive. He only intended to buy a few items, but just couldn’t help himself! The next year, he and his mother filled TWO shopping carts full of toys. It brought him such joy looking forward to that shopping experience each year – and the moment of hand-off to the Police, knowing the gifts were going to children in need.
In 2021, he connected with the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad and learned of their annual Santa’s Ride Toy Drive. That same year, several friends asked to participate in the annual shopping event, and encouraged Dave to seek support from friends/neighbors. Thus, in 2022, Dave delivered over $3,000 worth of toys to the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad – dressed as the Grinch (his favorite Christmas character). That amount grew to over $7,000 in 2024!
Dave lost his beloved mother, Nancy, in August, 2025. He established Nancy’s Toy Drop, a 501(c)3 nonprofit in her honor, to memorialize her love of Christmas and giving.
How You Can Help
There are several ways to help!
1. MAKE A DONATION – by clicking on the “Donate” button at the top of the homepage.
2. DONATE TOYS/GIFTS – we will start collecting donation items in October, and will update the “wish list” as it becomes available.
3. VOLUNTEER – by joining us at a toy collection event, or helping us spread the word throughout the community.

Mission & Vision
Our goal is to identify every child in the community who is in need, and provide them with a gift(s) for the holidays to ensure that no matter where they are or what their circumstances, they know they are special.

Nancy’s Toy Drop is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. We uphold strict accounting measures to ensure that every donation, whether it’s one dollar or thousands, is treated with the same rigorous care and gratitude. And we fundraise with Zeffy to ensure that you don’t pay any extraneous fees when you donate!

Nancy Pollard – mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, niece, co-worker and friend – is the inspiration behind Nancy’s Toy Drop. Her shining example of Christmas Spirit and generosity will live on through the organization and embolden us to reach as many children as possible.
